Creating a visual identity for Artists (Photoshop beginner)

“Creating a visual identity for Artists (Photoshop beginner)” will allow eight artists to learn the basic principles of graphic design and digital images produced with Photoshop.
Participants will learn how to produce excellent quality images for to promote art events or their own artistic work starting from ideas to materialisation of them. We will address resolution options of images for the web and print, and appropriate file types (TIFF, jpegs, png, pdf)for proper integration into various types of projects such as text documents and Powerpoint, for instance. The exercises in the workshop will be based on the visual identity desired by the each participant for their projects. The content of the course may vary depending on the interest of the participants in the group.

- Overview of Photoshop
- Basics of treating digital images
- Overview of the éléments that constite a « visual identity » ; logo, font, colours, etc.
- Basics of image résolution and file types in relation to printers and web
- Overview of sélection and transformation tools.
- How to use layers
- Concepts of visual design and image composition will be explored
- Work on your personal project with a mentor.
- Particpant’s projects will be presented and critiqued.
- How to produce different kinds of documents (Powerpoint, pdf)
- Overview of some basic web applications.
- Overview of the open-source application GIMP
This course will be taught in French by a bilingual instructor. Knowledge of a MAC environment is required.
Minimum of 8 participants. This course is beginner / intermediate level.
