Studio XX presents in collaboration with the Cinémathèque québécoise its 3rd edition of the Maid in Cyberspace Web Festival which will take place at: Cinémathèque québécoise – 335 Boul. de Maisonneuve E., Montréal February 1 to 6, 2000. The Maid in Cyberspace Web Festival explores Web art creations and installation works that combine digital media and traditional art practices.

A selection of Canadian and international Web art works by 10 women will be presented on computers in the lobby of the Cinémathèque québécoise. The artists are: Laiwan (Vancouver); Liz MacDougall (Halifax); Christine Stewart (Vancouver); Isabelle Hayeur (Montréal); Eva Quintas and Mitsiko Miller (Montréal); Melinda Rackham (Australia); Helen Thorington (New York); Angie Eng (New York); Zoe Beloff (New York); Olia Lialina (Russia).

The multimedia installation presented in the lobby of the Cinémathèque québécoise will compliment the selection of Web art pieces. Exhibiting: Diana Burgoyne (Vancouver), Gisele Amantea (Montréal), Marie-Christiane Mathieu (Montréal) and Mary Shannon Will (Calgary).

Daily round table discussion will feature: the installation artists; the Web artists from Canada and abroad; and renowned Canadian cyber-theorists: Laura U. Marks (Ottawa); Francine Dagenais (Montréal); and Cathy Busby (Ottawa). Discussions will focus on the technological and philosophical uses of the Web combined with digital media as exploited by women today.

“Cyber Maids” will be on site to guide you through the real and virtual landscape of our festival and exhibitions at the Cinémathèque québécoise.
