In Here is a VR project inspired by Marie-Ann’s relationship with her bedroom and her cat. The bedroom, and Disco the cat, were born during the lockdowns of the pandemic, with Marie-Ann spending most of her time there since 2020, living, sleeping, creating, playing, studying, painting, learning, hurting, loving, crying. At once a safe space and an isolating cage, the bedroom is a complicated womb. Inside, Marie-Ann, Disco and the bedroom all take care of one another as a perfectly balanced trio. Post-pandemic, the interdependence between the three never fully left. The artist often finds herself missing her cocoon, the kitten grew up into a cat that needs human affection every few minutes, and the bedroom still houses years of isolation. In Here aims to explore these relationships that have now been muddled with guilt. What if Disco gets lonely? What if the bed gets jealous? What if I miss my lava lamp?
