Studio XX is pleased to present, as part of the BIAN and in collaboration with Janro Imaging Lab, Zoe Bacchus’s work entitled How many miles can the body take? This work follows the promotion and presentation of women artists working with Sandde software, a 3D animation system that allows users to draw in a stereoscopic 3D space and sculpt lines as if manipulating an iron wire sculpture. Through Zoe Bacchus’s work, the audience is invited to enjoy a participative and sensitive experience of the body between real and virtual spaces.
This work is a real-time poetry that is an interactive presentation of a moving set of 3D drawn letters embedded in a virtual landscape. The letters become emphasized by certain poses of the body and this format can give rise to multiple interpretations. The live interaction between a performer and the 3D world that has been designed with Sandde is a reflection on the use of the body through the eyes of technology. For the duration of the exhibit, visitors are invited to view and interact as the performer of a 3D image with words that are animated by their motion.
Bacchus works with sound, performance, installation, and video art. Since 2005, she has completed a Psychology BA, studied Electroacoustic music composition and has completed an Individualized Program Fine Arts MA at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She has recently demonstrated her work at the 19th annual ISEA festival in Sydney Australia.
