* a formal presentation will take place later in the year with all the artists in residence.
During this residency, Olivia’s initial plan was to continue experimenting with Virtual Reality, creating a platform for Caribbean (or Caribbean diaspora) and Montréal artists and writers to contribute elements of their practice to a virtual 3D world she designed earlier this year, centered around the Caribbean mythical figure of the Riva Mumma (or Mermaid) and her world of water and mystery.
The process of working with these artists’ work inspired Olivia to start by creating a physical 3D (sculptural) installation before going back into VR, using several techniques new to her practice such as projecting words in space, video mapping (with open source software), and 3D printing.
Olivia would like to express thanks to all the artists for trusting her with their work and looks forward to opening up a platform for creative conversations around how we can ‘de-tangle’ the Postcolonial from our multiple perspectives.
This is the first step in a larger project, which will keep developing.
