Studio XX is pleased to host artist Kimura Byol with PROJECT #6261 MONTRÉAL, from August 25th to October 9th, 2016, as part of our 2016-17 residency program.
During the Studio XX artist residency (August 25th to October 9th, 2016), kimura byol-nathalie lemoine will make a non-linear narrative and interactive film (Korsakow).
“With this residency at Studio XX, I will explore the possibilities of non-linear narrative and interactive film with the software Korsakow as a playful and participative web-documentary. This project incorporates the particular reality of Montreal’s local street address system, which differs from other realities which are familiar to me, such as those of Belgium where I was adopted and South Korea where I was born. I had the idea to use my adoption number (#6261) to get to know the new city (where I wanted to immigrate) through meeting with the inhabitants of that street number.
I gave myself a structure of 100 days to work from this concept.I randomly chose 100 streets and sent a call to participation to those selected addresses. I visited the city by foot and public transportation, carrying only my camera to conform/inform the existence of the number #6261and to document the investigation process and meetings. I had the privilege of discovering different social, ethnic, economic and linguistic realities.”
