Radio Mapping | Janna Graham

Participants

During her residency at Studio XX, Janna Graham will continue to explore her work in immersive sound installation using a variety of transmission devices. Expanding her practice as a radio artist, Janna Graham is interested in creating surround sound audio installations in outdoor public spaces. Radio Mapping, an on-going project, explores the concept of lost mythologies in Mi’kmaq culture. She will investigate the idea of lost stories through interviews, found sounds, soundscape and narrative elements.

About the Artist:
Janna Graham is a sound artist, journalist and radio documentary maker. Guiding her practice is an abiding belief in the power of participatory media and the desire to find new ways to tell stories. In 2008, work at a community radio station in Rwanda led to the creation of four new short documentaries and In A Frame, a sound collage that aired on CBC Radio’s Sunday Edition. In 2007, her documentary feature on the poet John Thompson was chosen for presentation at the International Features Conference in Copenhagen. This past summer, Janna produced White Rabbit, an installation arts festival in rural Nova Scotia. Other co-productions include Full Moon Audio Art Camp and This City is a Radio, a radio art festival in Saskatoon.
