Studio XX, in collaboration with the Liane and Danny Taran Gallery of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts and its upcoming exhibition – F2F New Media Art from Finland (April 18 – June 2, 2002) – is pleased to announce a presentation by Finnish artist Heidi Tikka, which will take place on Tuesday April 16th, 2002.

Heidi Tikka is a media artist and professor at the UIAH Media Lab in Helsinki, Finland. In the context of feminist analysis, she has inquired into spatialities, distance and representation. Her installations explore visual technologies in the production of embodied and immersive experiences. Currently, her research elaborates on the notion of affectivity in interface design and media art. The artist will speak of her practice and research, as well as introduce Media Lab. The event will be streamed on the Web and internauts will be invited to participate via a chat.

‘Mother, Child’ is an interactive video installation presented in the f2fmedia.net exhibition. It intends to create a virtual, shared experience: the astonishment a mother feels when holding her baby. It also addresses the challenges inherent to contemporary interactive technology upon subjective experience and its representation. It was produced in collaboration with UIAH Media Lab.

F2fmedia.net is a travelling exhibition which explores three specific themes: the border between digital and analog expression; social interaction in the digital era; new digital worlds.

Founded in 1993, Media Lab provides education in new media design and production, particularly in the following three areas: Interaction / Information Design; Digital Authoring; New Media Management.
