Join Amélie Barrette for a presentation of their work and research conducted during their residency at Ada X from September 1 to March 28, 2025. Similar to a video game, the simUlator prototype is an immersive experience, available on computer and in VR for all to experience in a relaxed setting.
Developed in collaboration with Laurence Wells (Art et Essai), this hybrid project, blending virtual reality and immersive documentary, offers a reflection on gender and identity through the lens of video games and their avatars. simUlator provides an immersive experience where viewers explore the stories of protagonists within a house built in The Sims. Each room, accessible virtually, reveals interactive documentary capsules, alternating between animation and live-action footage. This experience allows viewers to modify and choose a body in a unique way, while aiming to both validate and educate trans and non-trans audiences alike. Their 3D world, designed under Unreal Engine, has also benefited from the technical support of World Creation Studio since January 2025.
This residency opportunity is presented as part of the “Digital Skills for Youth” program coordinated by the Independent Media Arts Alliance and funded by the Government of Canada.
