simUlator : Gender Euphoria Through the Lens of the Video Game Avatar.
Amélie Barrette
In residence from September 1st until January 31 2025
Chez Ada X
Developed in collaboration with Laurence Wells (Art et Essai), this hybrid project, blending virtual reality and immersive documentary, offers a reflection on gender and identity through the lens of video games and their avatars. simUlator provides an immersive experience where viewers explore the stories of protagonists within a house built in The Sims. Each room, accessible virtually, reveals interactive documentary capsules, alternating between animation and live-action footage. This experience allows viewers to modify and choose a body in a unique way, while aiming to both validate and educate trans and non-trans audiences alike.
This residency opportunity is presented as part of the “Digital Skills for Youth” program coordinated by the Independent Media Arts Alliance and funded by the Government of Canada.
