This workshop aims to introduce the participants to a creative and critical process in 3 steps: creation of 360 video sequences; integration of the 360 sequences into a virtual reality (VR) environment; and setting up an immersive installation in space, either with video or VR, or by combining both.
Participants will:
– Discover a variety of artistic practices in video and VR installation, and technocritical multimedia artworks;
– Explore the use of 360 video for VR in order to create a hybrid and experimental presentation;
– Develop a new project or adapte elements of an existing project integrating these new techniques;
– Present a project to the group (with the option of inviting friends / artists at the last class)
DETAILED SCHEDULE
CLASS 1: VIDEO 360 AND VIDEO EDITING (3h)
– Presentation of the practical and theoretical stages of the training
– Experimentation and tests in 360 video
– Importing 360 sequences on Adobe Premiere
– Presentation of existing artistic projects
– Discussion on the presented works
CLASS 2: VR INTEGRATION – STEP 1 (3h)
– Introduction to Unity 3D for VR
– Integration of a 360 video in the Unity 3D environment
– Presentation of existing artistic projects
– Customize a project from a template in Unity
– View the works in progress with the Oculus Rift VR headset
CLASS 3: VIDEO 360 AND VIDEO INSTALLATION (3h)
– Presentation of video and multimedia art installations that integrate VR in a relevant way
– Presentation of different projectors and their optimal use
– Finish the 360 video editing in Premiere Pro
– Export video files in an optimal resolution for projection
– Experimentation and video projection tests on different surfaces
– Layout of the VR work in the gallery space
– Share your work with other participants
CLASS 4: VR INTEGRATION – STEP 2 (3h)
– Share images of the current project with the group
– Continue and finish the project in Unity 3D
CLASS 5: VIDEO AND VR INSTALLATION, PRESENTATION AND FEEDBACK (3h)
– Finish the presentation and installation of the VR project
– Present and interact with artists and other guests
Prerequisites :
- Have notions in filming, editing and video projection
- Be a professional artist, creator or cultural worker **(see conditions)
- Commit to being present for all classes
Reservation / Payment
Reservations can be done by email at ateliers@studioxx.org. Full payment must be made for inscription to be valid. You can pay by credit card (Visa or MasterCard), cheque or in cash. Inscription to a workshop is not transferable.
Cancellation / Refunding
Le Studio XX does not refund inscription fees except in case of illness (with a medical note) or of absolute necessity. In such cases, inscription fees are transferable to another workshop or service offered by the New Media Lab.
Workshop Cancellation
Le Studio XX reserves the right to cancel workshops at any time and without advance notice. In this case, inscription fees are totally refunded.
**Are you employed by a company with a payroll of $ 2 million? In addition, this training will be paid by your employer because you will follow in the course of your job?
According to Emploi-Québec regulations, people who answer yes to these two questions have access to training, but can not benefit from Emploi-Québec’s subsidized rates. The fare will therefore represent 10% of the total value of the training. In the event of more registrations than the number of places available, priority will be given to artists and cultural workers who meet the profile promoted by Emploi-Québec.
