Carlos Parra
Carlos Parra is a multidisciplinary artist, musician interested in radio, sound art, walking and audio storytelling. Originally from Colombia, blind from birth, Carlos migrated to the United States and then to Canada, where he arrived as an illegal immigrant with his guide dog. During his travels and crossings, he kept a journal in the form of an audio archive. He obtained his citizenship in 2019 and speaks Spanish, English and French, and is fluent in Braille in all three languages. Sensitive to systemic issues and prejudices related to class relations and ableism, he increased his social engagements. For two years, he taught singing and music classes for young children at the YMCA. In 2013, he became a volunteer for Doctors of the World. From 2014 to 2020, he worked as an interpreter at the Court for newcomer asylum seekers. He is a guest on Radio Centre Ville for the program Recyclafe, and as a speaker at ATSA. His experiences have led him to develop a passion for the practice of translation and interpretation between languages, artistic languages and mediums, where crossing barriers and connecting worlds become creative opportunities. Since 2020, he is one of the performers in residence at the Forêt project, directed by choreographer Aurélie Pédron.
