Chantale Laplante

Project: Figures d’un territoire

Chantale Laplante, composer and improviser, lives and works in Montreal. Her work is focused around the notion of ‘hyper écoute’ which proposes an experience of the sound for itself and its intrinsic qualities. Her compositions, under the form of commissioned works and research and creation projects, call first the musicality of the interpret, and to the audience, an acute listening, anchored in an infinite duration. She pursues this research in the improvisational context creating, with her computer, long sequences opened on a dreamlike promenade. Her most recent productions Surface [Étang] (2010), Jerusalem (2010) and Haïti, Haïti (2010), were respectively performed in Brussels, Calgary and Montreal.
