Choeur Maha

For 20 years now, Choeur Maha has been treating Montreal audiences to its delightfully eclectic repertoire of choral music. Under the artistic direction of Kathy Kennedy, the 30-voice women’s choir sings everything from medieval compositions by Hildegard von Bingen to the avant-garde stylings of Hildegard Westerkamp; from Mozart to Madonna! Twenty years ago, two friends – Kathy Kennedy and Su Schnee, both local artists – thought how wonderful it would be if Montreal had a women’s community choir. With hard work and ingenuity the idea became a reality and Choeur Maha was born. Two decades later the choir continues to raise its collective voice – performing original choral arrangements, staging guerilla sound interventions, supporting women’s causes (International Women’s Day and Polytechnique) and singing in a joyous and daring mix of languages and styles.
