Ela Kagel
Ela Kagel is a freelance curator and producer. She holds an M.A. in European Cultural Planning from the De Montfort University in Leicester / UK and is a member of Public Art Lab since 2005.
Ela is co-initiator of the Mobile Studios project and curator of Upgrade! Berlin, a series of events on digital culture. Together with Public Art Lab, she has iniated and realised various projects such as the Mobicases, mobile documentary units, which have been presented at the Upgrade! International Festival in Skopje or the HTMlles Media Art Festival in Montreal / Kanada. She currently works on the implementation of the Mobicase into the Wheeling EU project, a 30-day road trip fueled by public law and culture.
Besides her work with Public Art Lab, Ela is a consultant and researcher in international media arts. Her recent work covers research projects such as City Interface , a mobile prototype for the Museumsquartier Vienna, or the production of IPTV-platforms, like the videoclip channel of Motor Music or 2010LAB, a digital platform for the cultural economy.
Ela is part of the curatorial team of the transmediale Festival for Art and Digital Culture.
For transmediale.10 she has developed the Free Culture Incubator, a model of the cultural enterprise of the future. For transmediale.11 she has initiated the Open Zone, a social experiment on Free Culture and the Open Web. Ela is curator of the Free Culture Incubator Workshop series, an exchange platform for freelance creative workers in Berlin.
