Gina Hara

Gina Hara is an award-winning interdisciplinary filmmaker, artist and activist with a background in new-media and video art. Her research focuses on marginalized narratives in the context of technology, specifically social media and games culture. Hara’s art works have been featured by different institutions including the New Museum in New York, Budapest Kunsthalle and the City of Montreal. She was nominated for Best Canadian Short in 2011 at the Toronto International Film Festival and recently won the Critics’ Choice Award at the Milan Machinima Film Festival for her machinima work. In the last decade, Hara has founded multiple initiatives to promote equality and acceptance. Her prospective residency project at Ada X pushes boundaries in digital storytelling and narrative traditions, while contemplating the vulnerable communities of marginalized identities in the context of our technological future.
