Johnston Newfield

Johnston Newfield for J’vlyn d’Ark: a trans-femme southern-belle video and installation artist from Georgia, USA. Through their artistic practice they analyze and exploit themes of trans experience, taboo social and personal practices, Southern US heritage, fanatic religious language and temperaments, and their own personal reckoning with ambivalent desires for identity and self-embodiment. Recently, they were artiste invitée for the 23rd edition of .dpi magazine, and collaborated with musician Rae Spoon to create visuals for the tour of their most recent album I Can’t Keep All of Our Secrets. They are currently working on a series of experimental videos about their experiences within the intersections of trans-, femme, and dyke identities.
