Shayla Chilliak
Shayla Chilliak’s multi-disciplinary practice revolves around the estrangement of the everyday. Her video productions and sound compositions originate with the destabilization of documentary sources, interpolating between literal representations and narrative alterities via fragmentation, collage, humour, absurdity and irony. This re-framing of unremarkable phenomena aims to renew focus on subjective temporal and sensorial experience, drawing attention to the perceptual act as an active, participatory, and intentional process. Her practice favours a collaborative approach via process-based experimentation. Highly influenced by the intersection of experimental music, multi-channel acousmatic composition, video art, and film music, she seeks to combine these fields in new and challenging ways. She recently completed her BFA in Electroacoustic Studies at Concordia University.
